The Aegean, Slowly — Ten Nights

Ephesus, Şirince, Bodrum, and a private gulet.

Ten quiet nights along the Aegean — ancient cities at dawn, a hill-village supper, and three days on a private wooden gulet.

The Highlight

Why this journey

This is the Aegean at its most generous — ten nights that move at the speed of the sea, with time for ancient marble, hill-village suppers, and three full days on a private gulet. You'll wake in secluded coves, swim before breakfast, and watch the coastline slide past in silence. The rhythm is slow, the hotels are small, and the itinerary is built around light, water, and the kind of meals you'll remember for years. This is not a holiday — it's a restoration.

Day by day

How the journey unfolds.

Day 1

Arrival Izmir

Private transfer to a small hotel above the sea.

Your driver meets you at Izmir airport and takes you south along the Aegean coast to a small hotel above the sea — likely near Seferihisar or Sığacık, where the coastline is still quiet and the fishing boats still matter. Your room faces the water, with a terrace for breakfast and a taverna next door for grilled octopus and cold white wine. After settling in, the afternoon is yours — swim, read, or simply sit and watch the light change. By evening, you're at a waterfront table, feet in the sand, and the trip has officially begun.

Day 2

Ephesus at dawn

Private early access to Ephesus and Terrace Houses.

Your guide collects you before dawn for private early access to Ephesus, arranged through the Ministry of Culture. You'll walk the marble streets as the sun rises, with the monuments to yourselves and the light turning everything amber. The Library of Celsus, the Terrace Houses, the amphitheatre — all silent, still, and astonishingly well-preserved. Your guide is a resident archaeologist, and the stories are layered, detailed, and utterly absorbing. By mid-morning, the tour groups arrive, and you slip away for a long breakfast overlooking the valley.

Day 3

Şirince vineyard

Wine tasting and a long lunch at a family estate.

Your driver takes you inland to Şirince, a hill village of whitewashed houses, cobbled lanes, and family-run wineries. The region is known for fruit wines — peach, apple, pomegranate, blackberry — and you'll visit a small estate for a generous tasting. The winemaker walks you through the harvest, the fermentation, and the bottling, and you'll taste wines that are sweet, complex, and deeply local. Afterwards, a long, slow lunch on a shaded terrace overlooking the valley. No rush, no agenda — just good food, local wine, and the hum of cicadas.

Day 4

Transfer to Bodrum

Private car south, villa check-in above Yalıkavak.

Your driver collects you mid-morning for the scenic drive south to Bodrum, a whitewashed peninsula town that feels half Greek island, half Turkish Riviera. The road winds through olive groves and coastal villages, and by early afternoon, you're at your villa above Yalıkavak — terraced gardens, infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, and that particular Aegean light. The rest of the day is yours to settle in, swim, and feel the shift from ancient history to coastal ease. Dinner is delivered from a local restaurant, and you eat on the terrace as the sun sets over the Aegean.

Day 5

Villa & village day

Slow morning, local market, farm-to-table lunch.

Your villa day begins slowly — breakfast by the pool, a swim, a book, and the kind of silence that makes you wonder why you don't do this more often. By late morning, your driver takes you to the Thursday market in Yalıkavak, a sprawling, gloriously local affair full of hand-woven textiles, ceramics, spices, and produce. You'll buy fresh figs, a jar of honey, and a hand-thrown plate you don't need but can't resist. Lunch is at a farm-to-table restaurant overlooking the bay — slow, seasonal, and utterly memorable.

Day 6

Private gulet — day one

Board a private gulet from Bodrum harbour.

Your private gulet is waiting in Bodrum harbour — a traditional wooden sailing yacht, beautifully maintained, with a crew of three, four ensuite cabins, and a deck built for long lunches and afternoon naps. You board mid-morning, settle into your cabin, and by lunchtime, you're sailing west along the peninsula. The captain anchors in a secluded cove for swimming, the chef prepares meze on deck, and the only sound is the water lapping against the hull. By evening, you're anchored in a quiet bay, watching the sun set over the mountains, and you've already lost track of time.

Day 7

Private gulet — day two

Anchor in secluded coves and swim before breakfast.

You wake to the smell of Turkish coffee and the sound of the sea. Breakfast is served on deck — fresh bread, cheese, olives, honey, and fruit — and afterwards, you swim straight from the boat into water so clear you can see the sandy bottom three metres below. The captain sails south to another bay, you read, nap, and swim again. Lunch is grilled fish, caught this morning and cooked on board. By late afternoon, you're anchored in Kargı Bay, where the water is mirror-still and the stars will be astonishing.

Day 8

Private gulet — day three

Return to Bodrum for dinner at Maça Kızı.

Your final morning on the gulet is slow and reluctant. You swim one last time, eat one last breakfast on deck, and sail back to Bodrum harbour by noon. The crew helps you ashore, your driver collects you, and by early evening, you're at Maça Kızı, a quietly perfect restaurant on the waterfront. You order the octopus, sit on the terrace facing the castle, and toast three days that felt like a different kind of time.

Day 9

Ancient Lycia

Private day trip to Kaunos and a Kaş sunset.

Your driver collects you early for a private day trip east to ancient Lycia. First stop is Kaunos, a Carian city with rock-cut tombs carved into the cliffs above the Dalyan River. You'll take a small boat through the reeds to the ruins, walk among the temples and amphitheatre, and feel the weight of 3,000 years. By afternoon, you're in Kaş, a whitewashed town perched on the Mediterranean, where you'll watch the sun set over the Turquoise Coast from a rooftop terrace. By evening, you're back at the villa, sun-tired and content.

Day 10

Farewell

Private transfer to the airport.

Your final morning is yours — sleep in, take a last swim, or wander Bodrum's whitewashed lanes one more time. When it's time, your driver collects you from the villa and takes you to Milas–Bodrum airport for your onward flight. You leave the Aegean with a stack of impressions — the marble of Ephesus, the wine of Şirince, the white light of Bodrum, the silence of the gulet — and the quiet sense that you've been restored.

Local Secrets

What the guidebooks don't tell you.

Small, insider-only moments we quietly arrange for guests on this journey.

  • At Ephesus, arrive at dawn for private access before the crowds — the marble glows amber, and the silence is profound.

  • In Şirince, ask for the upstairs terrace at Artemis Restaurant — the view over the valley is worth the climb.

  • On the gulet, ask the captain to anchor at Kargı Bay overnight — the stars are astonishing and the water is mirror-still.

  • At Maça Kızı in Bodrum, order the octopus and sit on the terrace facing the castle — it's quietly perfect.

Best time to visit

May to June and September to October are ideal — warm enough for swimming, cool enough for sightseeing, and quiet enough to feel like a secret. July and August are hot and busy, especially in Bodrum, but the sea is perfect and the gulet season is in full swing. Winter is mild and empty, though most gulets are dry-docked until April.

Good to know

  • Private gulets typically accommodate two to twelve guests — crew, meals, and fuel are usually included.
  • Ephesus is vast and mostly unshaded — bring a hat, sunscreen, and comfortable walking shoes.
  • Bodrum villas often have infinity pools, outdoor kitchens, and daily housekeeping — ask your planner for specifics.
  • ATMs and pharmacies are plentiful in Bodrum, but carry cash for small villages and roadside stalls.

What's included

Considered from every angle.

  • Boutique hotels & private villa
  • Three nights on a private gulet
  • Private guide, driver, and captain
  • Restaurant reservations throughout
