Istanbul & Cappadocia in Seven Nights
A quiet, deeply Turkish first visit.
The Highlight
Why this journey
This is the trip that does justice to both Türkiyes — the imperial city and the lunar valley, each given the time, care, and curation it deserves. You'll stay in boutique hotels that feel like private homes, travel in private cars, and work with a single planner who knows your name and your pace. The result is a trip that feels deeply personal, quietly luxurious, and utterly unforgettable. This is not a tour — it's an introduction.
Day by day
How the journey unfolds.
Day 1
Arrival in Istanbul
Private airport transfer, boutique hotel check-in in Beyoğlu, evening walk with your host.
Your driver meets you at Istanbul airport with your name on a sign and your planner's mobile number in hand. The transfer to your boutique hotel in Beyoğlu is smooth and private — no waiting, no crowds, just a comfortable car and a city unfolding outside the window. Your hotel is tucked into a quiet street, beautifully restored, with high ceilings, Turkish rugs, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Bosphorus. After settling in, your local host meets you for an evening walk — not a tour, just an introduction. You'll stroll İstiklal Caddesi, stop for tea, and get a sense of the neighbourhood. By dinner, you're already part of the city's rhythm.
Day 2
Byzantine & Ottoman morning
Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern and Topkapı with a resident historian.
Your resident historian meets you after breakfast and takes you into the heart of the old city. Hagia Sophia first — built in 537 AD as the greatest church in Christendom, then transformed into a mosque in 1453. The dome seems to float, the light pours through high windows, and your guide brings the layers of history to life. Then the Basilica Cistern, a vast underground reservoir lit amber and eerily still. Finally, Topkapı Palace — the sprawling residence of Ottoman sultans for 400 years. You'll walk through the harem, admire the treasury's emeralds and daggers, and stand in courtyards overlooking the Bosphorus. The pace is unhurried, the stories are rich, and you're never rushed.
Day 3
Bazaars, hammam & Bosphorus
The Grand Bazaar, a private hammam, then a private wooden boat at sunset.
Morning begins in the Grand Bazaar, one of the world's oldest covered markets — 61 streets, 4,000 shops, and a labyrinth of craft, colour, and negotiation. Your guide helps you navigate without pressure, pointing out the master ceramicists, the silk weavers, and the lantern makers worth knowing. Mid-morning, you're delivered to a private hammam — heated marble, eucalyptus steam, and a soap massage that leaves you boneless and restored. By late afternoon, you board a private wooden boat for a sunset cruise along the Bosphorus. Palaces, fortresses, and fishing villages slide past, and you sip Turkish wine as the city glows in the fading light.
Day 4
Fly to Cappadocia
Domestic flight, private transfer, cave suite in Uçhisar.
After a leisurely breakfast, you're transferred to the airport for a short domestic flight to Cappadocia. On arrival, your driver takes you to your cave suite in Uçhisar — carved into the soft volcanic tuff, with vaulted ceilings, stone walls, and a terrace overlooking the valleys. The landscape feels like another planet, and the silence is profound. The afternoon is yours to settle in, wander the village lanes, and watch the sun set over the fairy chimneys. Dinner is at the hotel — slow, local, and utterly restorative.
Day 5
Sunrise balloon & Rose Valley
Private balloon flight, breakfast on the terrace, slow walk in Rose Valley.
Your day begins in the dark. At 4.30am, you're collected for a private balloon flight — just you, your companion, and the pilot. As the sun rises, you lift into the sky above the valleys, drifting silently over fairy chimneys, rock churches, and cave houses. It's surreal, breathtaking, and utterly unforgettable. After landing and champagne, you return to the hotel for a long breakfast on the terrace, watching other balloons drift past at eye level. The afternoon is a slow walk through the Rose Valley, where the rock glows pink in the late light and the only sound is your footsteps on the soft tuff.
Day 6
Underground cities & Avanos
Derinkuyu, Göreme rock churches, pottery afternoon in Avanos.
Your guide takes you underground to Derinkuyu, one of Cappadocia's vast subterranean cities — carved eight levels deep and once home to 20,000 people fleeing invasion. The tunnels are narrow, the history is overwhelming, and your guide brings it all to life. Afterwards, you visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO site of rock-hewn monasteries and churches, some with frescoes still vivid after a thousand years. By afternoon, you're in Avanos, a pottery town on the banks of the Kızılırmak River. You'll visit a family workshop, try your hand at the wheel, and leave with a piece still damp or a finished work wrapped for the journey home.
Day 7
Return to Istanbul & farewell
Morning flight back, chef's-table dinner, private transfer home.
Your final morning is slow — breakfast on the terrace, a last walk through the valleys, or simply sitting in silence as the landscape reveals itself one more time. By late morning, you fly back to Istanbul, where your planner has arranged a chef's-table dinner at a quiet Beyoğlu restaurant — seasonal, inventive, and utterly memorable. Afterwards, your driver takes you to the airport in comfort. You leave Türkiye with two entirely different landscapes in your memory, both indelible, and a sense that you've been looked after from beginning to end.
Local Secrets
What the guidebooks don't tell you.
Small, insider-only moments we quietly arrange for guests on this journey.
In the Basilica Cistern, ask your historian about the Hen's Eye column — it weeps constantly, and no one knows why.
Your private hammam session includes a soap massage on heated marble — bring nothing, expect everything.
In Cappadocia, ask your cave hotel to arrange breakfast on the terrace at sunrise — the balloons drift past at eye level.
At Avanos, visit Chez Galip's underground hair museum — eccentric, authentic, and utterly unforgettable.
Best time to visit
April to June and September to November are ideal — mild in Istanbul, crisp and clear in Cappadocia. Balloon flights are most reliable in these months, and the light is soft and golden. Summer is warm but manageable, with longer days and lively evenings. Winter is atmospheric in both cities, though balloon cancellations are more common in Cappadocia.
